My work consists of soft, round functional forms for using everyday. Handmade vessels can enhance a connected response with our things, sharing food from a large bowl, drinking from your favourite mug brings about ritual, comfort and hopefully joy to our lives. Within the creation of food, there is an act of love for ourselves and others and I hope special handmade vessels enrich this experience.
After studying at Falmouth University, I completed a pottery apprenticeship in Cornwall. I now live in Devon but work from my studio in Bridport, Dorset. I wood fire some of my pottery with a group of potters in Dorset. The process involves loading the wood kiln over two days to reach the top temperature of 1280 degrees. During the firing, ash from the wood falls inside the kiln and creates organic surfaces on the pots. I also use a gas reduction kiln and electric for certain glazes.
